The best treatments for shiny oily skin

Oily skin LEVEL 1 Deep Cleansing

Oily skin is often caused by a lot of sebum production. If this is the case, it is an option to take a deep clean so that all the sebum can be reduced. The deep cleansing treatment is therefore mainly on cleaning the clogged pores. With this treatment we also give a short peel and mask, both of which have a positive effect on oily skin.

Oily skin LEVEL 2
pH Formula Exfoliation

With this peeling with different fruit acids we can regulate the sebum production, which ultimately ensures less oily skin. We achieve the best results with the combination of salicylic acid and retinol or vitamin A. Retinol has a very good effect against oily skin!
Level 2

Oily skin LEVEL 2 Oxy Geneo

The microdermabrasion treatment combined with oxygen regulates sebum production. This causes the skin to renew itself. It also ensures that the build-up of dead skin cells is reduced, so that sebum can escape more easily and does not get clogged. This minimizes the shine of the skin.

Tips against oily skin:

  • Use products specifically made for oily/impure skin. PH Formula has a number of products for example against oily skin such as PH Formula Rescue OIL. Good cleaning is also essential, so all pores are cleaned properly and you prevent blockages and excessive sebum production.
  • scrub the skind, this also ensures that the sebum production is reduced and the pores do not clog. Try adding this to your routine once a week
  • Plan regular visits to our salon, so that we can get the oily skin under even better control by means of one of the above treatments.
  • Cosmetics may be used but only if they are based on 100% minerals. Youngblood has very nice products that are ideal for people with oily skin.
  • Food is very important, don't get too many unhealthy fats and of great importance is a good Omega 3 Omega 6 ratio! We can measure this value balance for you using a finger prick.
  • Drink at least 2 liters of water per day.

What should you not do if you suffer from oily skin?

  • To smoke, really try to stop this. Smoking thickens your horny layer (upper skin layer) which can cause blockages.
  • Showering too hot. Shower preferably lukewarm or cold. A shower that is too hot removes the natural fat layer from the skin's surface. This causes the skin to produce even more sebum.
  • Eating unhealthy fatty products. This only makes the skin more oily and shiny
  • Sitting or walking unprotected in the sun. The radiations are really bad for your overall skin condition.
  • Touch your skin. People with oily skin have more bacteria on the skin. If you keep touching it, you spread it and you have a chance of more inflammation.

The oily skin

Oily skin is common in young people and men are generally more affected by this. You can especially see this when you look at the T-zone, which often shines. The skin is therefore thicker because there is more sebum on the skin surface. As a result, the skin is more irritated. Sebum is made up of fat and is indispensable for the body. Oily skin is often seen as problem skin. That doesn't have to be the case at all, because it protects the skin.

If the skin is too oily, the process of sebum production is not in balance with the loss. And therefore the sebum can change the pH value of the skin instead of protecting it. And if not cared for, this can lead to inflammation, which is often the precursor to acne. But oily skin also has its advantages. As a result, the skin ages much less quickly and it is a very strong skin. Nevertheless, it is important to try to balance or bring the sebum production into balance, because this ensures healthy and well-protected skin.

Characteristics of oily skin:

People with oily skin usually have large, visible pores. This is caused by the overactive sebaceous glands. This can be on the whole face but also locally (combined skin).

  • Shiny skin
  • Skin feels greasy
  • Larger pore structure
  • Suffer from pimples/acne faster
  • Often also a moisture deficiency

How does oily skin develop?

Oily skin is caused by hypersensitivity of the sebaceous glands, stimulated by the hormones. This is mainly caused by male (androgenic) hormones. This happens from puberty in both men and women. So it has not so much to do with your diet, but it is true that if you eat a lot of foods with a high fat content, your body has trouble digesting this and that can lead to pimples.

Stress can affect the skin as it stimulates hormone production. But it can also be hereditary of course. Pregnancy and pill use can also affect your skin, making it (temporarily) oilier. The climate naturally plays a major role, but also when you use certain cosmetic products.

Causes Oily Skin:

  • Hormones, this can really stimulate the production of sebum.
  • Pregnancy and pill use. Both have a huge influence on your hormones, which can cause the skin to become oily.
  • Stress, stress also produces hormones. That is why you can see changes in the skin when you experience a lot of stress.
  • Using the wrong products, many people use products based on oil, for example, without actually knowing it. Be well informed before you start with a product to prevent your skin from becoming oily and the pores can become clogged. Cleaning products also play a major role in this, if you use the right cleaning you can prevent the pores from clogging and thus prevent oily skin.
  • Medication, unfortunately this can also have an effect and cause oily blemished skin. This is often also described in the package insert.
  • A moisture deficiency. In some cases, if a skin is dehydrated, the skin will produce more sebum to protect itself from drying out. This creates a fat layer over the skin.
