Sensitive skin can be hereditary

Some are born with sensitive skin. This is genetically determined and the skin is therefore very vulnerable. What many people also experience is temporary sensitive skin due to certain influences such as cosmetics, stress or air pollution, while they do not have sensitive skin by nature. That happens regularly, but it is something different.

How can sensitive skin develop?

You are dealing with skin that is out of balance. This can be noticed by the tight feeling, red spots or rash on the face, but it can also occur on the whole body. And this also differs, because some skins are more sensitive than others.

An important function of the skin is to protect us against external influences. Think of dirt, harmful substances in the air, radiation and micro-organisms. The skin selects which stimuli or substances are allowed, but a too sensitive skin is no longer able to do this. As a result, the defense mechanism is disrupted and the skin has a lower resistance, with the result that the skin is no longer optimally protected and the stimuli and substances can easily penetrate. This makes the skin harder and often rough and irritated.

11 tips against sensitive skin

  1. Always use a UV filter in your day cream such as the pH Formula with SPF 50 or a separate one sunscreen, even when the sun is not shining because harmful UV radiation is also present. Sensitive skin is simply much more sensitive to harmful UV radiation. This prevents the skin from becoming irritated by this harmful radiation and you also delay aging because the harmful UV radiation is blocked.
  2. Use a cleanser without soap, this will prevent unnecessary irritation. The Gentle Cleanse from Medik8 is a very mild cleanser for sensitive skin.
  3. Drink plenty of water. At least 1,5 to 2 liters of water per day.
  4. Eat enough vegetables and fruit. The fibers in fruits and vegetables help your skin to retain moisture
  5. Cold is also a disadvantage for sensitive skin. Try to protect your skin as much as possible from cold and wind. This causes you to suffer from dry and chapped skin.
  6. We recommend using for sensitive skin Mineral foundation instead of a regular foundation. Mineral makeup contains ingredients and nutrients that do not seal the skin.
  7. Scrub your skin once a week with a mild scrub or cleanser. In this way the skin looks new and radiant again. You remove dead skin cells in this way, so that you encourage the skin to make new healthy skin cells
  8. Use additional skin supplements such as Lavise Sage Skin Balance (the basis for healthy skin) and Skin Protectt (extra UV protection)
  9. Avoid stress as much as possible!. Stress can upset your skin and make it even more sensitive.
  10. Avoid perfume and dyes in skin care products.
  11. Drink less alcoholic drinks. Alcohol is known to dry out the skin and can irritate sensitive skin.
