11x good nutrition for the skin!

There are several main causes that accelerate the aging process of our skin.  AGEs are a major cause of skin aging. Glucose (sugar) provides cells with energy but can also react with proteins, such as collagen. This reaction produces Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). These AGEs are responsible for loss of elasticity, the formation of wrinkles, and inflammation; they halt cell renewal and accelerate the aging process.

Watching your diet is easier said than done, which is why we provide 11 tips here for a healthier diet and more beautiful skin.

But don't forget that every person is unique. Not everyone will benefit from eating pure food. And eating unhealthy foods occasionally will not immediately lead to less collagen and damage to your skin. However, if you regularly consume unhealthy nutrients, it will worsen your skin and health in the long run, regardless of your skin type.

So, go through this list wisely and pick the tips that are relevant to you!

In this article, I give you 11 dietary tips against skin aging.

1. Sweet potato fries are healthier than regular potato fries.

Foods fried in oil at high temperatures release free radicals that can cause cellular damage to the skin. Exposure to free radicals accelerates the aging process through an action called cross-linking. CRoss-linking effects influence DNA molecules and can weaken the elasticity of the skin.

Although fries with plenty of salt can be very tasty, too much salt draws water out of the skin and leads to dehydration. Your skin is then more susceptible to wrinkles.

Fried products are full of bad carbohydrates and give you a short energy boost. After a while, you get hungry again, which is bad for your waistline. French fries are fried in fat packed with unhealthy substances, which in turn leads to skin damage.

Alternative: Swap fries for sweet potato fries or sweet potato slices and prepare them in the oven.  The sweet potato contains 1.5 times more antioxidants than blueberries.. These antioxidants neutralize free radicals, protect your body, and contribute to beautiful and healthy skin.

The sweet potato, as it is also called, is very rich in beta-carotene, which has an important function as a pro-vitamin A. Beta-carotene protects the skin against UV damage. Your body can convert this into vitamin A, and this vitamin is very good for the skin, the immune system, and also for the eyes.

In addition, sweet potatoes contain 26 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and protects the body against free radicals. Free radicals are a major cause of aging and skin damage.

2. Sprouted bread instead of white bread

When refined carbohydrates combine with proteins, this causes the formation of AGEs. AGEs have a direct effect on both chronic diseases and the aging process.

Foods with a high glycemic index, such as white bread, can cause inflammation in the body, which is directly linked to the aging process. Click on the  glycemic index list for an overview of foods with high and low values.

Alternative: Try an alternative to traditional bread, such as sprouted grain rolls that contain no added sugars. Sprouted breads also contain antioxidants that are good for the skin.

3. Fruit or dark chocolate instead of sugar

Sugar is one of the notorious adversaries of unwanted skin problems such as acne and skin aging. As mentioned above, sugar contributes to the formation of collagen-damaging AGEs.

When our blood sugar levels are elevated, this AGE is stimulated. It is accelerated even more when sunlight is involved. So, instead of eating ice cream on the beach, choose refreshing frozen fruit or a sugar-free popsicle.

Alternative: Grab some fruit or dark chocolate if you crave something sweet. Blueberries, in particular, prevent collagen loss.

4. Olive oil or avocados instead of margarine

Many studies have shown that people who do not consume margarine or butter have less skin damage and wrinkles than those who regularly overdo it with the butter knife.

Margarine is worse for the skin than real butter because it contains a high content of partially hydrogenated oils.. These trans fatty acids make the skin more vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation, which can damage the collagen and elasticity of the skin.

Alternative: Don't use margarine and swap butter for olive oil, or spread avocados rich in anti-aging antioxidants on your bread.

5. Choose poultry instead of processed meat

Hot dogs, pepperoni, bacon, and sausage are all examples of processed meats that can be harmful to the skin.

These types of meat contain a lot  sodium, saturated fats, and sulfites, all of which can dry out the skinand collagen can weaken by causing inflammation. For cheap protein options, swap processed meat for eggs, beans, and unroasted and unsalted nuts.

Alternative: Your body and skin need nutrients from meat. Therefore, choose organic lean meat such as turkey and chicken. These types of meat are full of proteins and amino acids that are essential for the natural formation of collagen.  If you want to give your skin an extra boost with collagen, then  Schools of LavieSage the best supplement to take with it. Skollagen is full of amino acids, among other things.

6. Dairy

Do you have mixed feelings about dairy? Science does too.

Some have seen positive skin changes by stopping dairy, but there are also people who see no difference after quitting.

It all depends on the person. For some, dairy can increase inflammation in the body, leading to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is one of the main causes of premature aging.

Diets low in dairy products can protect sun-exposed skin from wrinkles.

Alternative: Dairy is a major source of calcium, which is essential for overall skin health. For other sources of calcium, eat seeds, beans, almonds, leafy greens, and figs.

7. Soft drink

Soft drinks are packed with sugars. Two glasses of cola, orange soda, apple juice, or other sugary soft drinks every day ages your skin very quickly. The sugars in soft drinks cause glycolysis. During this process, sugar is broken down into pyruvic acid, which in turn leads to wrinkle formation.

Alternative: A good substitute for soft drinks is a glass of water with a slice of lemon, orange, or other fruit, optionally supplemented with mint, parsley, or cucumber. Skin that receives sufficient hydration looks younger and glows more. By drinking at least two liters of water a day, you provide your skin with enough moisture. Your skin will not only start to radiate more but will also become more beautiful in color.

8. Alcohol

Alcohol can cause a large number of problems when it comes to the skin, including redness, puffiness, collagen loss, and wrinkles.

Alcohol depletes your nutrients, hydration, and vitamin A levels, all of which have a direct impact on wrinkles.

Vitamin A is particularly important for new cell growth and collagen production, ensuring the skin is elastic and wrinkle-free.

Alternative: Drink in moderation. That is one drink per day for women and two for men. Ensure you stay well hydrated with water. Also, try experimenting with fun and creative mocktail recipes. Tasty, healthy, and alcohol-free.

9. Avoid cooking over high heat

Some polyunsaturated oils with a high content of omega-6 fatty acids, such as corn or sunflower oil, can cause harmful free radicals and can increase inflammation levels.

But this does not mean that all oils are unhealthy.  When it comes to oils and wrinkle prevention, choose monounsaturated fats to keep the skin hydrated.

Alternative: Swap vegetable oils for olive oil. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, and phytosterols and reduces inflammation.

10. Stop eating rice cakes

Although rice cakes are usually touted as a good and healthy snack, this is not the case for the skin.

Rice cakes have a high glycemic index and cause spikes in blood sugar levels. Elevated blood sugar levels contribute to aging and cause wrinkles.

Alternative: For an anti-aging snack, you can try hummus with strips of bell pepper. Red bell peppers have a high vitamin C content, making them effective at producing collagen. Chickpeas are also full of skin-friendly antioxidants.

11. Fight fructose with lipoic acid

Many people are surprised to hear that agave syrup can contain more fructose than, for example, corn syrup. Fructose breaks down collagen much faster than regular sugar, causing wrinkle formation to occur much more rapidly.

Alternative: Brussels sprouts are full of lipoic acid. Since lipoic acid can prevent the collagen-damaging effects of fructose, we recommend including Brussels sprouts in your diet.

Now, most people don't find Brussels sprouts very tasty.

What you can do is mix a small amount of Brussels sprouts into your vegetable/fruit shake so that the taste is not noticeable. If you find this too much work, the use of dietary supplements containing linoleic acid is recommended.
