Measuring Omega-6/Omega-3 ratios

The analysis measures the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acid ratio in the red blood cells. The most common omega-3 fatty acids are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The part of these two types of fatty acids of all fatty acids in the red blood cells is called the percentage, expressed in percentage omega-3 index.

The omega-3 index provides insight into whether you are getting enough omega-3 fatty acids through your normal diet or through supplements. An omega-3 index that is lower than 4 indicates a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and the ratio between the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in your cell membranes provides information about the condition for optimal functioning.

Because the test result is confidential and is analyzed by Vitas AS, an independent laboratory that analyzes the blood samples, it is important that you keep the ID number on the card. Without this ID number, the data cannot be retrieved, not even by us.

Take a photo of your ID number in case you lose the letter. Follow the instructions for use of your test kit carefully on how to perform the blood test or watch the video we have made.

The result is easy to view on the website www.omegaratiotest.com and it is explained how to read the result. Results can also be compared with previous tests.
